You’re Invited: Toxin-Free Twitter Party

Ask anybody here. The one subject that is guaranteed to hoist me up on my soap box is untruths (a very nice way of saying deliberately misleading information) in product packaging.

I’m a manufacturer, but I’m also a consumer. I buy products for myself and for my family to clean, moisturize and pamper. And like everyone else, I have limited time to stand in the store and read all the labels before making a purchase. Call me gullible, but I tend to believe labels that tout the buzzwords “pure”, “natural” or most importantly, “organic.” And was truly distressed when I recently found out that my new favorite “green” cleaner has the exact same MSDS (materials safety data sheet) as the old, toxic version of the same product.

At Earth Mama Angel Baby our job is to provide safe, non-toxic products for women and their babies. This product line was birthed during three full years of careful research and development to ensure its safety and purity. In my heart of hearts, I believe that women who are doing their very best to lovingly nurture their babies have the right to be fully informed about what they are buying. I part company with manufacturers when they deliberately make misleading claims about what is inside the bottle or jar. That’s just not right.

The bottom line is that no personal care product is “organic” unless the certifying body (i.e. QAI, Oregon Tilthe, etc) is listed on the label. Period. Companies that have the word “Organics” in their name have a responsibility to be truthful and to be able to back up their claims with responsible proof. Women count on it.

Our mission statement includes helping to educate mamas so they can make truly informed buying choices. To that end, Earth Mama Angel Baby is proud to host a Twitter Party with amazing experts in the field. We’ve teamed up with our favorite and frankly adorable green mamas for a Twitter party because toxins and babies don’t belong in the same bathtub.

On August 12, from 10-11 PM EST (7-8 Pacific), Jennifer Taggart (@thesmartmama), author of Smart Mama’s Green Guide and Sommer Poquette (@greenmom) will join us to discuss toxins in baby products. Stacy Malkan, (@safecosmetics), cofounder of the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics and author of Not Just a Pretty Face will be our third panelist for the party. These are three amazing women and we’re so proud and honored that they decided to come and play with us.

Tune in and use #ecowed to chat with me (@mamamelinda), founder/CEO of Earth Mama Angel Baby, Sheri Wallace (@PRMama_EMAB), our PR mama, and Liz House (@BlogsMama_EMAB), our blogs mama. We’ll be focusing on COCAMIDOPROPYL BETAINE. (boo, hiss) So do your research, read your baby shampoo, body wash, soap and bubble bath labels and get ready with your questions. There will be lots of prizes so come prepared to party.

New to Twitter like me? Need info about how to participate and what to wear to a Twitter Party? Don your best toga and follow these directions straight from our PR Mama, (I call her Sheriwallace), who knows about all things Twitter:

If you’re new to Twitter, you need to sign up and get a username. Here’s a good step-by-step guide to Twitter if you’re a complete newbie. I think the easiest way to participate in a Twitter party is to use Tweetchat, especially if this is your first party. You simply sign in to Tweetchat with Twitter and give the hashtag of the party you want to attend. In this case, it’s #ecowed. Tweetchat automatically adds the hashtag of the party to all of your tweets, and it’s easy to follow the conversation. You can also use Tweetdeck, Tweetgrid and Twirl to filter the hashtag and follow the party.
I just hope my toga is back from the green dry cleaners in time.
